A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial championship for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult year, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the American major.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.

It is the player's first trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court since spring of the previous year.

The win also means the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is really nice," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my child my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his previous six finals, comprising in that event earlier this year.

The player's defensive strategy and regular outbursts on the playing surface had led observers to doubt if his ability to play at the highest level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, attempting to approach the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an better serving game.

He recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky opponent, winning four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped break points in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden tour title, took control to force a third set.

Moutet defended four early-game opportunities in a tight third set before the Russian broke to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured victory with a shot at the net, with Moutet failing to control a return after a lengthy match.
